Press Release - Kinky Says "Of Course" to Martial Law

Chris Bell Offers Only Chance for Order on the Border

After last night's televised debate in which Kinky Friedman announced plans to declare martial law in Texas' border towns, Democrat Chris Bell victoriously emerged as the only candidate on a clear path towards securing the our border and the governor's mansion.

Christine Haas: "Mr. Friedman, you've said you plan to send 10,000 National Guard troops to the border and have them directly involved with law enforcement, not just for back up. By law this requires declaring military, martial law along the border cities. Would you go ahead and put those cities under military authority?"

Kinky Friedman: "Sure, of course."

"Talking about turning the border into a DMZ or an online video game is not only absurd but irresponsible," said Bell. "We need to secure the border, we need to crack down on companies that break the law, and we need a serious debate about immigration reform. After last night, it's clear that my opponents aren't up to the challenge."

In the debate, Bell called for a "logical and sensible" immigration debate and said he would encourage the federal government to enforce current immigration laws and crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers.

"We are all proud of Texas, we just don't like what those to on the end have been doing to it," said Bell in his closing remarks during the debate. "On issue after issue, on education, health care, ethics, Rick Perry and Carole Strayhorn have failed. Texas is in desperate need of new leadership and its time for Democrats and independents and angry Republicans to wake up and realize that this is the best opportunity that we've had in years to take back our state for the people."

"There is no runoff and there are no second chances," continued Bell. Whoever gets the most votes on November 7th is going to the governor's office and if we stand united no one can defeat us. I am a serious man with a serious plan. When I'm governor, Texas will be a better place to live, Texas will be a better place to work, and Texas will be a better place to raise our children, so help me God."
